Oil residue in coolant tank

Could it be residue from the previous work? I don't remember any complaints on the IPR oil coolers. Some of the eBay units have had problems and the Dorman issues are well known. The front cover is a long shot. Is the residue in the degass bottle for sure oil? Oil sorta goes through stages, floating on top of the coolant and leaving a ring around the inside of the bottle for a while, then getting mixed up better into a grey/brown milkshake. Combustion gasses (from headgasket issues) often don't make a milkshake just kinda floating gunk and often a much stronger smell. Can you post a picture of what you're seeing?

It has done fine until a few weeks ago. It started running a lil rough when I first started it up in the morning. Once it warmed up it ran fine. Then I changed to oil bc it was a lil over due an then noticed the oil film in the coolant bottle. I'm sick of the oil cooler issues anyway. saving up for a bulletproof oil cooler delete block. That's the only part I need to get so I can use the air oil cooler I built for my truck.

It was oil in my water. I don't know if IPR oil cooler ruptured or how it got in there. I started pulling it apart an I had a orangeish colored gunk in all my hoses an it had stopped up my radiator. I got it flushed out as best as I could b4 putting new ford oil cooler in it. I got to do a few more good flushes with fleetguard restore coolant system cleaner.
First drive with coolant cleaner in it oil temp was only 5 to 7 degrees above the coolant temps. I only drove it about 10 miles to the store to put fuel in it. Water temp got up to 190 oil temp highest was 197.

Definitely a failed oil cooler. When mine failed it was because one the gasket for the cooler cover failed. The oil cooler was also pretty plugged. Stay far away from IPR....Their quality has been questionable the past couple of years..

I got that IPR oil cooler bout 6 or 7 years ago. It has worked good except for towing until now. An I'm not sure if it was the IPR oil cooler that failed or a gasket on the oil cooler cover. I'm thinking it was a gasket because I found a gasket that was brittle when I removed it. I put a OEM oil cooler back in it for now but once I get the bulletproof oil cooler delete it will b put in place of the OEM oil cooler so I will NEVER have to worry bout this happening again.
