Can anyone tell me how much lift the stock ttb on a 1980 f250 can take? I'd like to lift it 2 inches and would like to know if drop brackets would be required.
Id also like to hear what you guys recommend for a cheap and safe lift.
There's a guy on the '97 - '96 forum (maybe here too?) that goes by '89F2urd who talks about TTB lifts like he knows what he's talking about. You might try to PM him to see what he thinks.
Personally I've never lifted an F-250, although I did put about a 2.5" lift on a '95 F-150. So I don't claim to be an expert at all. But my thought is that any lift on a TTB needs either drop brackets or custom swing arms. Just imagine what your caster would look like if you lifted your truck up 2" with a bumper jack (keeping the tires on the ground).
2" is oddball, and a tall order to take up with ball joint bushings. If you wnat 2" just do a factory F-350 setup with a D60 and taller blocks in the rear. An F-350 suspension should clear 35" tires.
4" drop brackets are available. If you lift a TTB this is the way to go, 4" lift with the drop brackets and suitable shocks and springs. In the rear you can go two routes, either shackle flip with factory parts or preferably Sky shackle mounts and box the factory shackles... Or an add a leaf and F-250 (4") blocks. I prefer to keep the rear axle as close to the spring as possible to limit axle wrap.
2" is way too much without drop brackets. Tuff Country makes a 2 1/2" lift for the TTB. It consists of a leaf pack that's added to the existing front springs, drop brackets for the axle pivots, and an add-a-leaf for the rear springs. You can re-use the original shocks as well. I've installed two of them and they ride well.
Where are you located? I'm in the process of doing a Dana 60 swap in one of my trucks so I'll no longer need the kit out of that truck. I should have it removed within the next few weeks. If you're close enough maybe we could work out a deal. Shipping it would cost a lot I'm afraid.
Sky now makes a 250 lift that works with tuff country drop pivots.
It's their "ford- nopanhard" or something close to that.
It does require minor welding on the frame horns, but not full boxing from what I've seen in other threads.
