I always had manual trans in my trucks over the years, but with our pathetic traffic here in Houston I now prefer automatics. I put an automatic in my '52 for that reason.
I have an auto (C4) only because it came with the truck, and I didn't what a manual bad enough to change the set up. I like the c4 but if was starting from scratch Id love a 4 or 5 speed manual.(synchro only)
I voted manual, because for me a manual transmission is an important part of the character of the truck and essential for an authentic (old truck) driving experience. Double clutching, grinding the occasional gear, and manual steering and brakes are all tangible connections to another time and place in my life. For me, these features epitomize what an old truck is and why I bother to have one.
It must be said that I live in a rural area where traffic is not a problem. Also, I have other vehicles for fast, comfortable, efficient, and dependable travel. I do intend to drive my old truck, but it will not be expected to function as a daily driver. If my old truck were my only means of transportation, I might just vote for an automatic.

I personally like the fun of driving a manual trans. I also like the simplicity. Another upside is not many people nowadays can drive stick so nobody I know asks to borrow or drive it.
Houston driver here too, I have a auto in my vette and truck do to the traffic. While both were in the shop, I was driving a manual Z06, found out very soon why I love my autos. I have plenty of hp in both to stay with most cars in the city. Save the knees before you get older and go auto. L8R ZFLASH
Voted "Manual" on this one. There's nothing like the sounds (good and bad) that come from a Warner T-9. Driving wouldn't be much fun without them! - Bob
I'm really surprised to see the number going for manual. I normally prefer manuals but only good ones. I never had the opportunity to drive my truck with the original box unfortunately but I hate grinding gears and missed shifts.
