Carb Needed
Hey Guys I need some help on picking a replacement carburetor for my 1970 F800 Dump Truck it has a 370V4 motor with the Motorcraft/Holley with the Govener stuff on it. the thing has been rebuilt several times the guy that I purchased it from. the thing is burning gas like a PIG.
Running really rich, burns your eyes to be around it. the idle mixture screws in the front of the carb don't change a thing.
So I am looking for something out there that will bolt right on and work.

Your truck originally came with one of the following FT engines (5 valve cover bolts per side): 330 2V Medium Duty; 330 2V Heavy Duty; 361 2V or 391 4V
No such thing as Motorcraft prior to 1973. 1962 thru 1972: Auto-Lite. 1973 and later: Motorcraft.

These are good carburetors but don't like to be backfired, sounds like it's got a busted power valve or one of the incorrect size.
Like NumberDummy said if your truck is a 70 model and has a four barrel carb it should be a 39.

You said this in post #1, but it doesn't have a 370, because this engine wasn't available until 1979.

If the power valve is busted, check if the carb has the backfire valve in it to prevent this.
Carb may need to be completely dismantled and cleaned Sonic hot tank works best.
Also check throttle shafts for wear.

Did you not have any luck with www.autoline.ca. You asked this question before. You should be able to cross reference your carb # and find a rebuilt one.
That is how I got one for my 1985 F-700, 370 4-V. My carb # is C-7488. Your truck being older might be a different #.

1979 F600/800; C600/700 (C Series Tilt Cab); LN600/700 all except CA emissions.
No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

I've had that happen before where they don't list something. I called with the number on my carb. They gave me their carb number and my parts store was able to get it.
