I had posted in an earlier post about my truck having a high pitched rubbing sound coming from somewhere down below and that the overdrive light was blinking constantly. I can put the truck in reverse in the driveway while powerbraking and the noise happens as soon as I step on the throttle. I took the truck to my local transmission shop and they found that it had three codes. 1)476-Exhaust pressure control valve malfunction/performance(I have this unhooked) 2)605-Internal control module Rom error(I don't know what this is.) 3) 1728-Transmission slip error. The shop told me that they were not sure exactly what it is and that the entire transmission should be pulled out and gone through. The guy said that this would cost by itself 5.9 hours or $400.00. This cost does not include any parts or putting it back together/in. I need some help and advise on if you guys think that they're trying to screw me and as to what you think my next move should be. As of now I told them to hold off on any work until I get back with them. I don't expect the work to be free but it would be nice if I could earn 65.00 an hour for my job!! Please help!!!!
I ran into a tranny problem at around 122,000 miles. It was estimated around $350 just to go through my tranny. I assume it was going to be removed and looked at. I don't or did'nt want to spend the money. Soooooo, I removed the tranny my self. Put in the back of my brothers truck and brought it to a different Transmission shop. It was gone through and it was trash. I ordered a new one, and had them install it. All together, $2200.
But the lesson---
I saved $350 on the 2.25 hr to remove it. the dealer wanted to charge me for 4 hr of labor.....
Usually, with tranny problems, if it has to be removed, it needs to be rebuilt or replaced....Do as much as you can yourself....
My truck has 106,000 miles on it and it does not have the factory transmission in it. The tranny was replaced by the origional owner at around 36,000 miles. My question is why would a truck with 106,000 miles on it go through 2 tranny's?
Shoot. I'm on second at about 59K...and working on third now at 82K. I don't tow heavy and have additional cooler up front. It pumps fluid out of bell housing whenever hot and outside temp about 100. One dealer says it needs seals and torque converter. Another says it needs pump and seals.
Guess I'll find out soon. It's still under extended warranty, so I'll let Ford try again. Maybe it'll last longer next time...
I am on my second tranny. I am wondering, what would it take to convert my auto to a 6 speed. Or is it even worth it to try. I know that standard usually last longer than automatics..... Just a thought.
