Cab swap, without seats!
Then get a set of new seats to put inside and then figure out the registration/title.
pictures, police report, both registrations/titles, the DMV folks will fix it (California has a way to interfere in everything though)
Good luck, hope you come out ahead after going through this!
It sounds like the inability to source a suitable replacement cab has been the deciding factor in cleaning and rebuilding the original cab.
If I was going to take one all the way apart like that, I would consider Dynomat or some other soundproofing material. I like stock stuff too but if you are going through all that work you might as well make it better than it was.
Finding a cab would have been the hardest part of doing a cab swap. As for the title, your DMV and state police would help you there. They have probably done things like that before and have a way to deal with it.
Sam--I just looked up DYNAMAT and sound proofing is a great idea, and seems relatively inexpensive--for 250 or so I can cover floor, fire wall, and headliner. A more quiet 7.3, what a concept!
I'm realizing there are more options than I knew. I think I'll go talk to Joey about approving what goes back in.
What are the best sources for truck interiors, and what years are interchangeable? How do I search?
I'm still not finding what I feel like should be out there. I must not be searching properly is all I can think.
With so many of these trucks on the road, there have to be thousands of people sitting on nice "low milage" interiors with wrecked bodies, blown engines, etc.
Search on car-part.com. This is a listing of parts available from most junk yards around the country. I have seen many complete interior packages for sale on there.

This is kinda why I was promoting the "whole cab" plan. The whole cab is about as difficult to find as one with anything usable inside. On the very rare occasion that ANY Super Duty shows up in a salvage yard near me, it is there because it is worked to death or partially stripped already. Most of the SD parts I see for sale are privately owned and posted on Craigslist or Facebook.
I believe an exact fit cab for your truck will be 99-04 unless you need the wiring harness then the 7.3 ended midyear 2003.
But you have expressed no fear about putting effort and cubic dollars into this project so you COULD use a later model cab but it would need to be modified to use your existing wiring. Any 99-16 SD cab will bolt on and work if you are ready to adapt your existing wiring & controls. But it might be a huge wiring headache if you want all the "new cab" features to work.
Precisely what I am finding, Sam. Worked pieces parts. Or, listings that are years old. I have even been looking or a whole cab to buy even if just for the guts. I'll try the CL & FB route.
CH59, you may wish to start a new thread regarding your search for Super Duty parts. I seem to remember somebody posting up the details of a boneyard that had tons of SD units but because the search function on this site is not that good, I couldn't locate the thread for you. Good Luck
