Hey guys I am a long time 6.0 guy and that's what I still drive. I am working at the fire house today and one of the guys just picked up a 6.4 from out west, the claim they put a rebuilt motor in it. Well when you start it I has a loud high pitched noise that you can hear in the video. It doesn't change with Rpm. I went through the turbo and connections and couldn't find anything. Also when I opened the small cap on the top side oil cooler it was empty should that have coolant up to the sight glass?
U got to get in there with a good ear and get close. Could be a cac boot loose or an up pipe. How does the boost gauge look>?
Has the cap on the degass bottle ever been replaced? If not go to Ford and get a new one that is a common problem for everything in more ways than one....20 bucks tops (the originals leaked down and held zero pressure. (could be your whistle.
Is the degass bottle at the full mark? Cold
The sight-glass sitting next to the brake M/C is a fuel cooler.
My truck is always below the glass.
Anything on the ground after overnighting.
Radiator hoses on these tend to leak from the orig single O ring. Upgrade to 249.00 hoses with double orings from Rudys performance parts. They're on ebay and high quality.
If it's a constant whistle without reference to rpm, there is a leak/intake constant and that should surface in loss of antifreeze/loss of boost/or the ac and hub system.
Check your intake from the air cleaner and make sure that's clean and buttoned up correctly.
Ok pulled everything off intake wise and turbo no leaks after letting it run for 10 or 15 min the sound stops immediately and returns almost like a pump of some sort I will tell him to replace the cap
It is only when the truck is running. I will try that and let you know
Did you find a solution to this noise? By your description, this seems very similar to the noise from my truck. I have not been able to pinpoint it yet.
I should start a new thread as this is a very hard find and a great write up from Seth/Fritz. (Firefighter1406) Member. (SpeakerFritz) Commandant of 6.4 FTE.
Caution: Don't forget to check Coppers idea and make sure you examine the up pipes closely for cracks/soot. If it only does it while it's running, it's whistling while it works and that could be a fire issue.

This is exactly the issue. Hit a deer with the truck so the body shop had to replace the cooler. Thought it was all good, but didn't realize that it drained the pump and started making noise. They refilled and primed the system and the noise went away.

Bad thing is when it happened to me you couldn’t hear it going down the road. But soon as you stopped you were deaf.
