DEQ Help!! F250

HELP!!

I recently acquired an F250 XLT Camper Special and need to pass the Oregon State emissions test prior to getting my registration renewed.

I failed to first test for 2 reasons:

1) CO2 level was too high at idle.
2) I didn't meet the noise requirement of 93 Decibels.

For the first problem, I believe that all I need to do is adjust the carburetor and make the mix leaner. Can anyone give me some tips on doing that? The believe the carburetor is the original stock version.

Second, for the noise problem...anyone have hints on taking car of that? I'm at 102dB and need to get down to 93dB. I've looked at the exhaust pipes and mufflers and see no visible holes. If the mufflers are sound, how do I decrease the noise?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks-

adjust the air/fuel mixture screw to lean it out a little

it has dual exhaust? if the muffler(s) are new original mufflers you should have no problem, if they are worn out mufflers then you will need to change the muffler. more than likely the only way around it is to change the muffler

run some premium gas through it and there is some stuff on the market made by rislone? that is suppost to guarantee passing an emission test, i doubt it will work on the muffler problem

Thanks for the tips.
One more question...which screw is the mixture screw? If I'm not mistaken, there is a screw to change the mixture and one to set the idle speed. Which is which?

Thanks!

It's a Motorcraft carb. I can see where the idle adjustment screw is (on the driver's side linkage) but I'm still unsure of the mixtrue screw. Thanks again for all the help!

there are two of them, under the front of the carburetor, that are about 3 inches apart. they stick out parallel to your intake manifold.

screwing them in makes the mixture leaner, out richens it.

to make a rough adjustment, screw them in a little bit, like say a 1/4 turn for each one, until the idle starts to get rough. when this happens, back them off until it smoothens out again.
