Suspension Excursion 7.3 PSD

I read through a lot of information on suspension. I really just want to make sure i'm going in the right direction and if i'm missing anything. This is my first post and I just bought the vehicle this week. I'm very excited to be part of this truck family!

I Looking to do X and B Moded leaf springs with new U bolts, Hangers and Shackle.
Front and rear Hellwig sway bars and landyot Radius Bar.
Bilstein shocks F250 for front

Is there anything else that I can do to help improve the ride?
Also any idea how much this will lift the Excursion? Maybe 3"?

Well that is hard to answer..what are you trying to improve? Also not knowing the condition of your current parts your upgrade may be totally useless. IF you do not have sway bars those will help the stability of the truck. How about rear shocks?

X-codes are pretty stiff. Is that what you really want? I guess it depends on what you're going for.

Why are you replacing the hangers and shackles? What are you replacing them with? Do you currently have a front sway bar? If so, no need to replace it IMO. If you're going to replace the front shocks, replace the rears as well. You need slightly longer shocks for the rear than stock with modded B's, IIRC.

What's a "landyot Radius Bar"?

3" seems optimistic. Can't really answer the "anything else to improve ride" without knowing what kind of ride you want, what kind of ride you have now, and what you plan to do with the truck.

We need more information... and pictures!

Well the truck is stock and has 310k miles on it. I hear that most do V and B springs and they mention how the ride improves and things like that. It's riding really rough so my plan was just to improve the ride.

this page has some of the info but it only confirmed what most people mentioned. It's either that or a lift kit.

From what i read the X is pretty good for the 7.3. I'm no really going for the lift. Also I do want to put a really nice front bumper on it. I think most who done this work have gotten a 2-3 inch lift.

This is really a family vehicle. Not sure what has been done to it. Once I get it back I will take pictures. The head gasket has a leak so it's being worked on right now.

Landyot is the name of a forum member who used to post here until selling his radius rods apparently became a problem (this was before my time as a mod). He ended up at another forum, selling his radius rods.

Back in '04 & '05 when fixes were being searched for and explored for the Excursions 4x4 suspension (to combat the wander), Landyot came up with a radius rod set up that apparently helped overcome some of the wander effects. The rods went through a few different variations and IIRC, someone else just recently (last year or two?) is now making them.

Unless they changed the design the landyots "work" by putting the rear suspension in a bind. They are a terrible design. Your factory anti wrap bar will keep axle wrap in check unless you have a highly modded setup.

Sounds to me like you have a case of "changing things for the sake of Change"

If you don't want to change the ride height or "lift" then why not just correct the "really rough" ride ?

Start by posted some detailed pics of your current suspension and let's see if we can help identify what is going on.

Along with pics we will need 4 measurements. Measure from the center of the wheel hub to the bottom of the fender arch.

something similar to this is what I want to do. This post was 5yrs ago so I'm still researching. I want to have the lasted and the best info. It will take me a while but sooner or later I hope to have it all narrowed down :-))

Does the Landyot perform the same function as the Hellwig?

Way too general in describing what you want. If you just want a smoother riding rig, the first thing you have to do is determine if what you have needs any maintenance or replacement. Make sure the foundation you're gonna work with is up to spec and operating properly, so do what Camo suggested below....

After that we can help you narrow down what you're wanting to achieve (posting a link and saying "something like this" doesn't tell us what YOU want), and with that info we can give you detailed choices on how to slay your dragon.

Believe me when I tell you we LOVE to help guys spend money on their Excursions, so bear with us as we ask you to provide info you may not think is important.

No, the "hellwig" is a sway bar used to reduce body roll and or increase /decrease understeer or oversteer.

The " landyot" is a leaf spring anti wrap device.

A stock ride height Ex doesn't need either a landyot or rear bar.

thats why I'm asking and trust me I appreciate all the help. Right now I'm just asking based on what I have read. Which I read that it's recommended putting in the V and B leaf springs on it and to change the shocks. I added the radius bar to see what people would say since so far what I read seems to be good.

Once the head work is done and I get it back I will take pictures. It's does have an issue and it's with the drag links. I was thinking of getting the xrf suspension parts to replace that. Everything else is stock. Everything else is fine on the car as far as having issues.
