So I have a Ford F-150 1987 5.0 302 small block and I can't get it to pass emissions could the smog pump have major play in this I also found that the divoter valve is not connected and broken off of the whole system could this cuz it to fail
Yes, the AIR pump and that valve play a big part of emissions compliance. But, the guys are going to want the info on what didn't pass, so I copied it over:
That looks like the secondary air injection pipe (with check valve broken off). If you could take photo from a few feet further back that would help.
But yes, that can cause the truck to fail smog test.
Welcome to your own thread Victor
If mine, the first order of business would be to replace that valve. What state are you located in ? Next step would be to address proper AIR function.
It's looking like Cali to me.
Well that's exactly what the valve is so u are rite but is there a special tool to remove it
Soak the fittings with PB Blaster and use open end wrenches being VERY careful. Use firm but slow pressure. The assembly has to be removed as Country Bumpkin mentioned....there is a piece broken off of it.
I don't have an OBD1 tester and on top of that my truck don't even have a check engine light and I've taken the cluster bored apart before to install a light but still nothing the check engine light does not come one
The ruff idle can also be a cause why it will not pass and stalls out.
How many miles on the motor?
Have you done a compression test on it and if so the readings?
When was the time a full tune up was done to include carb & timing adjust?
I would replace the broken parts and the above that I asked about that are the basic before going for the test.
