I did the spd ypipe years back and I now assume I went aluminized and not stainless and the salt has been eating away at it the past two winters. I just found a 1999 ypipe from a v10 a few miles from me on Craigslist for forty dollars and if like to go buy it this weekend. I'm almost 100% positive it will fit my 04 with the 5.4 correct? Here's a picture of it
Figured I do a follow-up so if anyone else wanted to do this it would be a lot easier. My truck is a 2004 5.4 with automatic and I installed a y-pipe from a early 2000 model V10 with 5 speed manual, the 2000 y-pipe fit the exhaust manifolds correctly except the midpipe was longer so the cat flange is now behind the transmission crossmember and is directly above the skid plate for the transfer case. After installing it I actually prefer this because I have more clearance around the Y pipe then with the factory 2004 model and now the flange is behind the transmission crossmember so I can easily get to it with my electric impact instead of using a ratchet and busting my knuckles. I had to cut the pipe on my cat converter and reweld it because the 2000 ypipe was longer, once that was finished everything bolted up correctly and bolted to the exhaust with no issues. So far I only drove it about two miles since last night but it seems the exhaust is slightly more throaty at idle and driving around maybe because the cat and muffler are so close to themselves now I'm not sure?
I took pictures after i got cleaned up and i didnt want to crawl in the dirt again. But the 2000 y-pipe has so much more clearance around the motor/trans/and frame than the original 2004 choker pipe
Y-pipe was longer so the flange is now behind the trans crossmember which makes it super easy to get the impact guns in there with no fitment issues or the puzzle of swivals and extensions i had to use with the original y-pipe
Like i said i only had to cut the front pipe and reweld that back to the flange. After a few minutes everything went back and lined up with the borla exhaust. Maybe its just me but i swear the idle has more throat to it as does driving around normally, WOT seems the same. Maybe because the ypipe is longer or because the cat is so much close to the muffler?
Have one more question after I first bought the truck knew I had dual exhaust put on it and then about a year later I had the factory cat removed and a straight pipe put in its place I can't remember but isn't there supposed to be and exhaust bracket right where the cat should be? Seems odd there's only one by the muffler and one behind the axle but nothing in between the motor to the muffler?
