Why is rear end higher?
Why is rear end higher?
I bought a 1999 F-250 super duty ps diesel. Why is the rear end so much higher that the front end.or is it my imagination?
My Dodge 2500 Diesel seems to be so much more level.
Thanks
Mark

Why is rear end higher?
I'm not 100% sure, but it's either that your front springs are sagging a little from the weight of the engine, 1000lbs, or the rear end has a block in it to lift the back end of the truck. Mine used to sit higher in the back, until I put on the Shackle Reversal Kit, which raised the front 3.25". Now it sits a little higher in front than in the rear, so I put a little air in the rear bags for a slight rake.

Seems like Fords have been that way for some time. I know my '90 F250 was higher in the rear than in the front. I always figured it was so when you had a big load, it wouldn't look like a Chevy 1/2 ton does with a washing machine in the back; sagging and overloaded!

You guys are full of knowledge! I don't have a camper package.....so that one is out .....It doesn't seem to go much faster downhill...so that's out .....The one about a washig machine sounds pretty good.....and I read somewhere about a kit to o something with the shackles so I might reaseach that...
What's is the difference between a 350 and a 250 under body?
Thanks

wingit and johnsdiesel are correct. It's so that when you put a load in the back it does not sag.
The difference in the 250-350 is that the 350 will sit up higher in the rear because the block under the rear springs is 2" taller than the one on the 250. That's it aside from the door sticker that gives the 350 100 more Lbs of GVWR

the '99 f250's came out with the 4" blocks [like current day f350's config. on the rear axle/spring].....totally normal. there was a big squawk at that time about the beds being too high for current day 5'th wheels and ford had a "tsb" to retrofit the 250's to a 2" block. so now you know you can carry an F350 load in the back of your F250
.
my limits are...gross axle weight rating [+- 6000lbs] and tire rating. [you had better get this right...mine 3400lbs each side]

Thanks for the info........one of the reason's I ask is because I have been reading (in one of the forms) that Ford says something about noe being able to plow with a 250. That's one of the reasons that I bought the truck other than towing a boat.. I've read from some people that you need a 350 to plow so I was wondering what the difference was between the two.

mark...from my '99 brochure.------4x4 snowplow optional package F250/F350 superduty....highest front GAWR/springs,auxilary rear spring. so if you have that optional package you would be set to plow snow. i don't know if that info is obtainable from your VIN number.

mark..you know the VIN # that you view thru the windshield...jot that down and then on this site click SUPERDUTY/HEAVTDUTY..about the 4th post down it says" decipher your VIN" by yeti....you might be able to find out what you have there, but i aint sure.if you take the truck to a ford dealer they might be able to find something on the driver door post tag. let us know if anything works.
