7.3 PCM Issues

Hey guys so I've been doing a restoration job on a 1995 F-350 Crew Cab Long Bed 4x4 Single Rear Axle 7.3 Powerstroke for a little over a year now. The truck ran when I took it all apart and tore it down and now that It's all back together it's not starting. I have a few issues to work out but right now I want to tackle the PCM. I'm not getting a tach signal. I know for a fact it isn't the CPS or wires because it has a known good CPS out of my buddies running 1997 F-250 7.3 and I also swapped in his PCM out of his 97' into mine and when his PCM was in my truck I got a tach signal. Truck still didn't start with his PCM in because I'm having an issue with the HPOP or IPR not filling the oil rails but I know at this point that it is 100% the PCM at fault for the no tach signal. I shipped my PCM out and the company told me "They could not find an issue" so now I'm looking for a replacement.

Here is a picture of my orginal PCM sticker....

Now 4 different part number PCM's come up when I look up my truck through my shop computer but none of them have my EXACT PCM OE Number Listed on their cross reference charts...

The PCM I am leaning most towards as being the "right one" is the Part # 78-8365F one because it says it is "DPC 202" like my old PCM says it is. But even though it is a "DPC 202" PCM it still doesn't have my exact PCM OE Number listed on the cross reference chart. The closest it comes is with the "F5TZ12A650BJF". The 3rd and 4th digits of "TZ" are the only difference from my PCM which is a "F5TF12A650BJF" (See Pictture below for the cross refference chart)

I have read on other forums that the PCM's of these OBS 7.3's are relatively interchangeable from year to year but I just want to make sure before i spend the money on this Part # 78-8365F PCM that it will indeed work for my truck once I get it flashed. Anyone who knows anything about these PCM's that could lend me a hand with some information on them would be greatly appreciated!

Also below is the cross reference of another PCM we had listed at the shop. It is a "DPC-203" PCM however on the cross reference list it does come very very close to my PCM OE Number with a few of the cross references lining up exactly except for the last 2 letters of the OE Numbers.

The DPC-203 is manual transmission hardware. Any DPC-202 will work EXCEPT the early 50-state emission "MIFx" series.

So the one I'm looking to buy (Part # 78-8365F) that is a DPC-202 PCM will work as a replacement for my PCM even though the OE Number isn't on the cross reference chart? Do you know if they will come preprogrammed or will I have to take it to Ford to be flashed? Thanks for the help!

It depends on the vendor. The ones I have purchased from NAPA were pre-programmed.

The PCM you buy will NOT come with TEE5 programming anyway but TDE1 if it is flashed from the factory. If you need to take it to a dealer to be flashed, they will also put TDE1 on it. It will feel a lot different and act much different than what you're used to (unless you're running aftermarket tuning...which will use TDE1 anyway).

Gotcha! I'll have to contact the company before I purchase to see if it comes preflashed. Is the TDE1 just an updated software from the TEE5 I'm assuming?
