Weigh stations are for commercial vehicles unless posted otherwise. Each states laws are different but most do not list any restrictions in regards to gvwr weight ratings, only the gcwr in regards to your class of license.
In most cases, exceeding the gvwr of your truck or trailer or both would subject you to civil liability.
Axle limits were mentioned, what are the limits of our axles? This new 5er I bought has 4K tongue weigh. Those bags come in handy!
5,000 for a Dana 60 front axle 8250 for a cab and chassis dually rear not sure what a non cab and chassis both mine are 8250 11k gross I know my old non cc f350 was only 10k gross but don't remember the axle rating.
I do not stop at weigh stations with my truck or when towing a trailer. It's personally owned and insured used by me for personal activities. I do carry a DOT health card, and a class A with doubles triples tanker and hazmat endorsements. I do not have a name or dot number or not for hire on the side of my truck and have all the paperwork for my trailer, registration, insurance in my own name. I also carry a fire extinguisher triangles and updated hazmat emergency response guide in my truck. Basically anything I'd need in a DOT inspection.
since you said you are going to nu yawk, make sure you are legal for their stupid bridge laws. personal or commercial use, if the nu yawk bridge ***** see you they WILL pull you over and go over the truck with a fine tooth comb. and after they write you 15 tickets they will tow you off the road and charge you $1,000 for the tow, plus the cost of all the overweight tickets.

Thanks for all the information guys! I'm going to take a look at the trailer next week when things slow down. I'll stick with the 35 ft deck length. I won't be going anywhere near NY City. I hate that place and avoid it all costs. I'll be sticking to I81 all the way to Syracuse, then divert to Lake Ontario. I appreciate the help and feedback. it's always stressful not knowing all the rules and regulations. It wasn't until yesterday that I learned you can't technically have over 60ft between truck and trailer in NC.
Over 4,000lb in Delaware they do a regular inspection for all lights and brakes and if it's over 10k it needs a battery break away box. Inspection every two years. They are starting to crack down on personal use trailers tagged in Maine I pay the extra to have it tagged the way I know is legal now. About $300 every two years here. in Maine it's like $240 for 12 for my same trailer
