Do You Use Your Bed Extender?

I'm waiting for my SCrew with 5.5 box and looking around at bed extenders. I'm coming from a SCab 6.5 box, which has always been plenty of room (no problem leaving the tailgate closed and letting boards stick out back). Anyway, I'm a little concerned with losing a foot of bed length so I'm looking at the Ford extender. If you have one, how much do you use it? It's still not enough room to lay an 8' board flat, which has me wondering if it's worth the bother.

I sold mine. Didn't like how rickety it was. My 2001 had a metal one that I liked much better. The one that came with the truck reminds me of Little Tykes toys.

Had them in my last two trucks, the only time it was used I had it flipped TOWARDS the cab to keep coolers or whatever between it and the tailgate. I took it out of my F250 about 6 mos after purchasing, was just in the way most of the time. I never used it as it was intended. Personally, I wouldn't opt for another one.

If you're going to use your bed extenders, don't count on the back-up camera.

I use mine a lot...not as a bed extender but to keep my cargo from sliding to the front of the bed.

Same here.

I have an ancient John Deere diesel and at certain times of the year I need to haul in dyed diesel for it in 5 gallon fuel cans. The extender makes it super easy to bungee the cans to it to keep them from falling over. And when I get them home I don't have to climb in the back of the bed to retrieve them.

I use it frequently to haul gas cans too, for the snow blower and lawn mower. In the winter I get my 5 gallon jugs filled with kerosene a couple times a week for my garage furnace.

I had one once and it was pretty much useless. The shape of the thing limited what I could put in the bed & when flipped out over the tailgate it was the wrong shape for 4x8 material.

I've found mine to be VERY useful with my 5'5" bed. From holding my 4 wheeler and riding items in or loads of tires/wheels..ect Also works great flipped forward for a trip to Sam's club or Costco. I really like the design of the plastic unit instead of the metal one piece that they used to use in the SuperCrew and Sport Trac trucks.

So, what do people think about the "bed divider"? Isn't that the thing that is actually designed to keep things from sliding forward?

I would probably get more use out of the divider, seeing as how that's basically what I used the extender for.
