I have a 2012 F250 flex fuel. I just bought a fifth wheel that just about maxes out the towing capacity with the 3.71 gear ratio. Is it as simple as changing out the gear ratio to a 4.30 to get more towing power? Also, can the transmission and axle handle the change. I got the info for the different gear ratios on the towing capacity guide from ford. 3.71 12500, 4.30 15300. Help please.
you have 3.73 gears most likely. They don't make 3.71.
The issue with changing gears or not will not help with payload as the axles and tires didn't change.
have you had this 5th wheel, hooked up and on the scales yet? Have you had the empty truck on the scales so that you know how much you have available for the king pin wt of the 5th wheel?

the king pin they are going to install is fairly new. It weighs less than 50lbs but has the capacity to pull 25000
