Engine failure - at 418,000 miles

Let me preface this by saying that the truck has 418,000 miles. It has served me very well in the past and will continue to do so. However I regret to inform you guys that I have experienced an engine failure and I have to replace the motor at this time. This all started several weeks ago as I started experiencing trouble codes such as PO420 and po430 along with a check engine light. The truck was running fair but I was experiencing sluggish acceleration and a bit of a rough idle and it continued to get worse as time went on. I put some Lucas in it and hoped that that would clear up the problem but it did not and so I wound up taking it to the shop. After the shop removed one of the valve covers and inspected it, they told me the valve train had serious pitting on the camshafts and therefore the motor had to be replaced because it made no sense to invest a bunch of money into repairing it in their mind it was better for me to either get another motor or another truck. So after making a bunch of phone calls I finally decided to buy a long block from Ford it is not brand new it is a remanufactured block it has a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty. The truck is in the shop as we speak. the motor has been removed and the new one will be going in today or tomorrow. I will be back on the road soon and will make more reports here are some pictures I welcome your comments thank you

Notice the pitting on the camshaft it is on both camshafts and that causes poor performance

Awesome 400k miles. Did you use full synthetic oil? Do you think it would have failed like this if you had used it? Still quite a showing in reliability and endurance. It should go to Ford for inspection.

What about your transmission. I am guessing it been replaced already. Wondering how long it lasted?

I have used Mobil 1 extended performance oil from day one. Along with Ford oil and air filters
I purposely used 5w-30 instead of 5w-20 because I live in Texas heat. However, I will now use Motorcraft 5w-20 oil to satisfy Fords 3 year, unlimited mileage warranty. I don't think it failed due to oil quality or maintenance. Imho, just too many miles on a cam (s) that is designed to endure x amount of cycles. And I pushed it to the limits. And beyond. Btw,it never smoked..
go figure.....

may not last much longer but already outlived its life cycle imho.
