2008 F-250 5.4 Timing Drama
Back again with more timing questions!
2008 F-250 Flex-Fuel 5.4L Extended Cab
1) I replaced all timing components. Phasers, VCT's, chains, guides, rails, crank sprocket, 1 cam sensor.
2) I am still getting a code for P0345 cam sensor bank 2, P0349 cam sensor signal intermittent bank 2.
3) The truck runs like CRAP. It sounds fine at low RPM, but I can't get it to wind up any higher than 2500 RPM. It becomes worse when operating temperature is reached.
4) I've re-timed this truck twice. I'm very certain the timing is right. I lined up the marks on the chains and phasers, crank sprocket etc. I checked twice by taking off the timing cover to confirm.
Questions:
1) Are the cam phasers from a 2007 5.4L the same as the 2008 5.4L? I had extra ones in my shop for a 2007 f-150 truck, and now it's occurring to me maybe they're different? they sure look identical.
2) How do I test the bank 2 cam sensor pigtail/harness? The sensor is new.
3) Would advancing/retarding the phaser on bank 2 one tooth fix the issue? Does it sound like the timing actually is out? Which way do I turn it? Clockwise?
4) Do these engines have positive air pressure or negative vacuum under the valve cover? I found a bad valve cover gasket that was hissing and leaking after reassembly (I think), and I replaced it. I'm about to reinstall it this afternoon. I'm considering vacuum leaks as possible causes.
5) The bolts that fasten the cam phasers to the cam. Are they all the same from manufacturer to manufacturer? Same specs etc?
6) I hear a wicked hissing noise upon start-up coming from what I believe is the bank 1 valve cover, as I said I'm replacing the gasket. There doesn't appear to be an exhaust manifold leak (no carbon/oil/broken studs on manifold). Is there any other vacuum source near that head towards the firewall?
7) Could a bad crankshaft position sensor cause this? Are these the right symptoms?

Update:
1) I replaced the bank 1 valve cover gasket, hissing noise is less pronounced. Now I'm suspecting a exhaust gasket leak, I smell exhaust under the hood.
2) All 8 spark plugs replaced. None broke. Amazing...
3) Fuel filter was replaced. Fuel pressure normal.
4) Mass airflow sensor and throttle body serviced and cleaned.
5) Prior to purchase code P2110 Forced throttle limited was present and erased. It re-appeared again tonight after I performed the above work.
6) P0345, P0349 codes present throughout the repair. Erased and re-appeared continuously. CPS replaced. Harness looked at, but I'm not 100% sure how to test without a helper.
I'm starting to believe the throttle body is FUBAR. There is no problem with fuel, spark, air, timing, applicable sensors... the reason why I was thinking the timing/phasers/chains were timed incorrectly is actually because the throttle body is malfunctioning, producing similar symptoms somewhat to the cams being 1 tooth off time on bank 2.
The problem is there's no "wrench" indicator light on the instrument cluster... which is throwing me off causing mis-diagnosis no doubt.
Thoughts?

I think your problems are coming from the harness or the connections. Your signal from the sensor is intermittent to the PCM. Here's a link to help you understand better.

I considered that as well. But I'm looking for a testing procedure for the cam sensor and harness... i cant find any info online. I'm not the best with 5v reference circuits.

Could low fuel pressure produce those symptoms as well?
I advanced the bank 2 timing 1 tooth. No more code P0349... yet. I'm considering that a bad fuel pump could make it so I cant get the motor over 2500RPM.
Also, I located a leak in the bank 1 valve cover gasket that refuses to seal. I replaced the gasket. Could that cause those symptoms as well?
