Newbie Question

While i am not new to cars, this is my first Diesel. In my 96 powerstroke 250, i have what i would call a module. It is mounted on the passenger side of the 5spd shifter. It has a a digital readout of the engines rpms, and has several buttons. An RPM control button, a Charge protect button, and ford logo shaped button with ford in it, all across the top, and 4 buttons on the ride side, all featuring arrows. What is the purpose of it is my question. What would i use it for? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

TIA
Dusten

Newbie Question

That's the optional AIC (Auxiliary Idle Control) unit.

It is also used for extended idling. You raise the rpm to maintain an egt of 275* pre turbo to prevent wet stacking. It is also used to keep the a/c cold by elevating idle which keeps the fan pulling air through the condensor.
