Mr Miller

how do you determine if the amount of water in diesel fuel is to much, and caused the hPFP to fail?

Mr. Miller, Look for signs of rust on the components in the HP system.
Hope this helps. You could try doing a search on the topic. I know it has been covered here a few times. Good luck and Welcome to FTE !

Mr. Miller - Welcome to FTE as well. Usually by the time the Water in Fuel light comes on, it's too much. Ford will say, if it's enough that it makes it past the HFCM (lower fuel filter) it's "too much". It will cause rust and that will be the cause of failure.

Not saying I agree with that, since it is known in the industry that the CP4.x pump is super duper sensitive to water and it's almost impossible to stop ANY watre from getting past the filtering system.
