you dont really need it until past 500 hp or continuous use above 5000RPM but program engineering has the kit and it needs machine shop work it's not something a regular joe can do
I did a google search. But was not able to find Program engineering. How do I contact them.
I was going to use a blower but decided to go with nos. I will be producing somewhere around 850hp on the bottle. I don't want to be walking back down the track picking up engine parts!
I would also say a 4 bolt conversion would be over kill.I woud think the money could be better spen upgrading from that 6-71 supercharger to a 8-71 Just my two cents
I dropped the blower idea and decided to go with NOS instead. The blower was just too much $$. With all the engine mods I need to do for a blower: Forged pistons, rods and crank. I still need another 3000.00 for a blower setup. A two stage 425HP NOS setup runs 625.00. Even with the 4-bolt conversion I will save 2000.00.
I've never heard of a FE lasting extended periods of time with a 250 shot of Nitrous, let alone over 400 you'd better have a shelby block if you want it to last...
Randy, start saving your pennies. You'll need an aftermarket block to repeatedly stand up to 800hp punishment. Think Genisis, Arias, Shelby or, if you can find one, a Gould. The factory blocks are in trouble at a constant 600-650, with the crossbolts, maybe 750 is okay. Have you looked at Shoe's Capsaddles ? Might help. Anyway, for that heavy of an N2O load, you still need the better rods and the forgedpistons and forged crank. Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go ? DF
The TRW forged pistons came in yesterday. I am looking at some Eagle ESP 3DP Rods. Still looking for a good forged steel crank.
I really can't go over 600HP with all the forged pieces and 4-bolt mains. I am useing? Damn that is a major disappointment! I thought FE's were stronp blocks. guess not.
All I have to say is,BLAH
You don't need steel rods,or a steel crank remember the early 427's Ford ran cast cranks for some time in NHRA and Nascar.Just make sure its all balanced out and keep things spinning under 6000 RPM.As with almost any big block RPM's are not your friends. You can run cast pistons as long as you keep the Boost lower than 5psi or the NOS under 150HP after that you tend to run a chance of breaking rings, ring lands and the like. Its not like you would kick a rod under 6000 RPM. Or even destroy the block just upgrade to aftermarket rod bolts and main studs.Thats stuff that should be done to any hopped up engine.I know there is a blower guy in Chicago,IL that said he would rebuild my 6-71 for $650 with a warranty. He would also make the drive kit for about $800. And I found a guy that would sell me the Blue thunder intake for $625 new witch has to be close to cost.
I heard that you can use a little Hardblock block filler to reinforce the block and still not over heat. they sele a short fill kit for street use. What do you guys think?
