Gauge Malfunction
Hey guys,
Recently in my 72 F100 my Gas, Temp, and Oil pressure gauges will randomly read all the way full,hot,high at the same time. I recently replaced my bulbs in the cluster with LEDs and it started happening after that but it was fine for about a 2 week period after I put the bulbs in. Could the bulbs be causing this? Maybe a fuse problem? It seems to reset and act fine once i turn the truck off for 5 minutes.

I sound the with the gauges doing odd things like a bad body ground. Check and replace if old frayed ground at the rear of engine to body.
Plus clean all grounding wire an possibly even behind the dash cluster.
Led's makes all sorts of goofy stuff happens in your electrical system, sometime it helps to have the Led flasher units or they can cause more problems.
One thing about dash Led lights it you'll have no control over how bright it shines to if over bright.
I installed all Led's outer running lights an the Led flasher units with a ground resistors for the load. Every thing was functioning ok all but one thing. With the Led flasher unit in has now stopped my cruise control from working. So went back to the oem flasher unit that causes bleed over to the right tail light running & brake lights when the left blinker is on. But once my head lights are on everything works find other then the blinkers do flash pretty fast, I don't care if they do.

I'm thinking it's the CVR (Constant Voltage Regulator) on the back of the cluster. It's purpose is to mellow out the power to the gauges. Slow the needles down. Which is why when you drive around a corner and the gas gauge needle doesn't move even though the gas is sloshing. As an example.
