4000 rpm was about where mine usually shifted, but the governor might be a little bit sticky in yours, needing more rpm to shift. Now, the vacuum modulator will increase pressure, by the adjustment, and if incorrect or the rod incorrect length, the line pressure can actually overcome the governor and it won't perform a governed upshift until some vacuum is restored. Also, I believe a green stripe modulator is for trucks/towing. Different diameter diaphragm, and responds more quickly to vacuum, I think. I would not concern a 4000 rpm shift, out of a healthy 400/351m.
I checked vacuum linew and its connected top and bottom. I didn't pay any attention to modulator. But my truck is a "trailer special," there's an emblem on tailgate.
I have this emblem in the center of my tailgate. You mention towing so that's the only reason I'm mentioning it. My transmission was completely rebuilt including new torque converter last year, by a local reputable company. He just replaced pan gasket because it started leaking sitting in my driveway. I added fluid before test driving. Test driving when I replaced power steering pump and rebuilt steering gear box.
Well, trailer special option had no modifications to transmission, I have had those before. That option was a different rear bumper, a light relay, the big radiator, and a transmission cooler. Maybe something else. you probably need a little bit of tuning, and it will run out fine.
Oh ok, an I thought I had something special with trailer special. Lol! I'd never heard of one until I seen this truck. It does have over sized radiator and cooler. The truck does run and drive perfect when just driving around town. It's when I got on the gas just goofing off, that I noticed the problem. So there is a hidden problem that showed up when I floored it. Thanks for info. Any more ideas are greatly appreciated. Hopefully I don't have to take back to transmission shop.
