Sorry guys, I posted this in the wrong area before.
I have a 98 MH with a 460 in it. Feul injected, runs great, I love it. The problem is that the dash air completely quits when I accelerate even a small amount and on long hills, even small ones, it quits until I let off the gas. I have installed a larger vacuum can on the firewall in place of the one the size of an orange and that didn't help. I've been told that it should have a bigger booster under the right front fender and it does. I have come to the conclusion that I might have a small vacuum leak but am not smart enough to know how to test for that. I put a vac guage on it and it read 17 to 18 at idle. I have not driven it with the guage on it yet but sitting in the yard when I gunned it a little with the break on and in gear, the vacuum dropped dramatically.
I know it is supposed to shut off the AC on hard pulls to protect the AC and prevent overheating. But it shuts off even when on the level and I accelerate just a little. That's not right I think.
You should clarify "completely quits". The blower stops blowing and compressor shuts down? Or does the air flow stop at the vents and goes to defrost? If its the second item you do have a vacuum leak.
In reply: The AC blower completely quits and I can't tell if the compressor quits as I am on the road with the engine cover on. I presume the compressor quits. There is no air blowing anywhere, including the defrost vents. It has been suggested that I should take it to a ford dealer because there is a service bulletin on this problem but since I bought it used I don't think that is an option.
