2003 Excursion - Error P0231

Hey guys,

Looking for some help or advice. I bought my Excursion about 3 months ago. So far I've replaced the Alt and battery all because it randomly die on me. I guess no the issue isnt the Alt or battery but an error P0231.

P0231 Low Voltage Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit

I've replaced what I thought was the fuse but not 100 percent sure. I cleared the error message and now it's still doing the random turn off. Now I'm getting an error P1000. Has anyone ran into this issue before? Tried google search with very little success.

I had the same code for awhile, but it never died on me. In my case I bent a pin on the PCM when I was putting my chip back in. Check your inertia switch on the passenger side kick panel that could also cause the problem. I replaced it as it seemed to be not working properly. Is yours diesel or gas? Mine is 7.3. The fuse is actually built into the panel and really cannot be replaced.

Is yours the V10?

If so, I am chasing the same problem and posted it here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...lp-please.html

There are other threads, but people describe stalling conditions differently. I'll post up other boomarked threads in a while....but search out PCM issues, too.

The PCM issue is not a service bulletin according to the dealer.

It's not the fuel pump.

There, saved you a $1K

I haven't seen any codes on mine though. It was the dealer who said they pulled a P0231 - I never saw it with my code reader.

When i bought the truck it came with s STC livewire and that's where is found the P0231. Also right now has a code P1000. Did you ever find the Fuel pump fuse?

No, but I never looked.

I was told and somebody provided schematics that reflect the fuel pump relay is on the PCM, which is located in a separate box behind the stereo.

Dealer said the fuel pump relay is on the central junction fuse box, and that it was fine. But, I'm not confident they accurately tested either irrespective of where it is located.

Here is my original dealer ticket, and the PCM board location in our 2003 models:
