Well this dog gone deflector on the side of the radiator on the passenger side of the truck has ripped for the second time and the drivers side is heading that way too. I know folks say that they don't serve a purpose but I'm down here in the hot humid south and I can't bring myself to pulling them off but dont feel lile taking it in again under warranty to have them replaced knowing they will just rip again in 20k miles...
You don't need the deflectors when you're cruising down the highway at 70 mph.
They're there to help when you're stopped in a traffic jam on a 95 degree day, or when you're backing a heavy trailer up a hill. At those times the only air going through your Radiator, Transmission Cooler, and A/C Condenser is what's being pulled through it by the engine fan. You need all of the airflow you can get and those shrouds help channel it all to the right place.
The first question I have to ask is - why?
What makes your truck so different from the thousands of other out there that the shrouds are not falling apart?
Once you identify the cause you have a better chance of a permanent fix.
I'm at 87,000 miles (give or take) and have had no problem at all.
I wish I knew bud. Im not the only one that has been through this though but I think most just don't worry with them after the first round. I dont run my truck hard mostly 70 mph highway driving to and from work, no off roading or anything like that. Heck my truck has yet to even see a dirt road lol I dont know but it agravating though.
I hate that for you, but I would go through the headache of getting them replaced under warranty one more time, and if you have issues again, you could try some metal grommets like they use on tarps. Maybe that would help.
I just looked while checking my oil and mine are all jacked. Looks like they used tar paper. Might have to test my skillz with some sheet metal and tin snips. I'll definitely be watching temp qauge in a traffic jam.
