Going under the VC’s is no big deal. I would NOT do anything except GP’s and $0.52 mod.
Shimming the injectors is a controversial ‘bandaid’ for worn injectors. I prefer to just replace injectors when they need it.
There is no reason for compression test. No blow-by = good compression.
GP’s can be changed in about an hour. It will take me longer, because I have to clean the CAC pipes and VC’s while they are out. I use a Little right angle impact for almost every fastener. The back VC bolts and the ones near HVAC box - get 13mm shallow socket, swivel joint and 4” extension. I think a lot of folks get hung up because they want to SEE the bolts. Just use one hand to feel the bolts and the other to guide the socket on - don’t psych yourself out!
I use 1/4” drive 10mm deep socket on GP’s. I break them loose with a ratchet, then I use the baby right angle impact and hold the socket on GP at an angle - not fully seated/square - and spinning them out of the holes. Then use a magnet on a stick to lift them out.
If you square the socket on the GP, when you loosen GP the socket/GP get stuck under rocker arm.
