You are going to have to get universal ones as it is too old to find any for. Check for ones from a Dent (73-79) and 80-96/98 as they should be able to be modified to fit.

Yeah, might be a LOT more expensive than $25, but I was going to mention finding some retractables. I bet there are some in a JY somewhere....

when i first posted what was primarily motivating me at that moment was watching a lot of rubicon rocker carnage on youtube. what about for off roading?

apparently the floor panel that needs protecting is at least 12" wide, and the length of the cab.

the bottom of my cab is ~28" off the ground. perhaps a question that i should ask is, should i even be worried?

it seems as if protecting this area would require a lot of (heavy?) metal... say, two 2" steel pipes connected by 3/16" steel plate on the bottom... and everything attached cantilever style to the chassis (bolts? welds? both?)

...and (thinking out loud some more) one of those steel pipes could be from a commercial and serve dual duty as a step, particularly if the flat plate were extended outwards by 2" or so...

Not really. Ford carries 4" and 5" for current trucks.
