My concern with the double honk is having it happen in a nice quiet campground as I am backing into my spot. I usually hop out a couple of times to see how things are going. I am considering putting a relay in the horn wire and then controlling the relay with an upfitter switch. I'm sure there will be times when I forget to turn it back on right away but hopefully I can live with that.

Just disable it with FORScan...much easier
It's worth the price of the BT adapter.
Safety feature my ****. Pretty sure this is the only push button vehicle with an alarm when you exit with truck running.
You all need to get on Fords as about this problem. Forescan can cause other problems it seems but then again not sure if it's people meddling or what is the cause.
I disabled mine using ForScan...but I'm not surprised Ford is directing Dealers not to disable it. It is a safety feature along with the 30 min automatic shut-down. Since push to start and hybrid vehicles first started coming out there have been several cases where people parked their Hybrid in their garage, put it in park, and just left it on. Once the battery depleted the hybrid would kick on the combustion engine and carbon monoxide leaked into the house and killed the occupants. I realize ours aren't Hybrid's but, is following industry recommendations for push to start and hybrid vehicles. Once a few more people perish I'm sure NHTSA will get a law passed that requires all PTS and Hybrids to have similar safety features that cannot be disabled.

I hate safety not because it is meant to save lives but because it's taken to extremes.
Nothing personal just object totally to the whole idea that is considered safety. It's a diesel they are not silent and they are smelly. If you don't know your vehicle is running maybe should switch to electric. They are silent no fumes and will likely explode like Samsung phones eventually.

The word "Safety" is very broad. It's more security, the terms overlap in the legal world. The main reasons are two fold.....you walk away from your truck and it gets stolen, or even worse you and your wife go someplace but only you get out with the key in your pocket and your wife drives the truck away and she gets stranded someplace (in a bad part of town).
Why can't Ford just do a chime and make it unable to shift out of park? Horn is a little overkill..
Probably because you have to exit the truck and shut the door resulting in the key outside the truck. If you're outside the truck you can't hear a chime.
You can use ForScan to enable Secure Idle, which would prevent the truck from shifting into drive if the key isn't in the truck.
What we all need is a specific contact to to the right person at Ford. Then everyone complains to the same contact about this issue being obnoxious Overkill. A simple chirp would get the point across to the driver just as well. My wife's button start Volvo doesn't do this crap.
I agree with the double honk, it would seem they could rout it to a secondary reminder that was more of a small toot if it has to meet a safety requirement. Everyone within a block does not need the information.
