I've decided that the 390 in my 55 is going to get an overhaul. She's low on oil pressure and I want to save it before she goes boom. I just had the heads done, new cam, lifters and timing set so I'm halfway there, just need to do the bottom end apparently. Y'all have any experience with the 444 scat strokers? I want to run pump gas, but wake it up, and I figured if I'm rebuilding it, I may as well add some extra cubes. Let me know what your thoughts are. I want to keep it as reasonable as possible, and get the most gain as possible. But I'm not building a dragster, just want her to run healthy. Thanks!
If it's this one, they like 9.5 and up compression. Long duration results in cylinder pressure loss, and if you have stock pickup 8ish compression 390, you have none to spare. So if you rebuild at 10:1 and that lumpy cam, you might need to arrange to buy rear tires in bulk.
