If this problem only cropped up after the work you listed was done, double check the sprak plug wires on the cap. I just replaced the one on my van & it wouldn't start after the change. I used the location of the test port on the cap as a reference for where the wires went. Wrong! The test port on the new cap was in a different location from the original. Wouldn't run with the spark timing 60 degrees late. Go figure!
You didn't specify what engine, etc. I guarantee you'll get more help here if you post all the relevant info. How did the problem start / were there any symptoms leading up the the no-start, etc.
You replaced the fuel pressure regulator. Do you actually have fuel pressure? Also, do you have spark? Take one of the old plugs, put it on a plug wire, lay it on a metal part of the engine & watch it while someone cranks if for you.
The parts I replace were sometime ago. Like two years ago. Yes, I do have fuel presure, lots of it. Found out when I hit the shrader value next to the pressure regulator.
It just started doing this like two days ago. I'm haveing the TFI tested right now. my better half will be back soon.
It was running GREAT!! My wife told me that it starting jerking on her and then would just quit. She also told me that it would not run under load which I did verify. Now, I'm lucky if it even starts.
Did you replace the fuel filter? The reason I ask is because I have seen them cause the same problem. But I had a new problem I hadn't seen before. My LUV truck would start then quit, check it no gas coming to the carb. Crawled undeneth and checked the filter no gas. Found out the there was a small tear in the gas line next to the clamp on the filter. Was sucking air and loosing syphon.
Too a point. That's if I can get it started. I thought about the same thing. I cleaned it up real good. It seems to have a lot of play in the value itself. Would it cause it not to start at all? thanks for everyones help
TFI and pressure requlator check out fine and there is spark. I know because I shocked my self several time.......just kidding.
okay, the manifold pressure that operates the fuel pressure regulator. Is that what actually controls the pressure or is there something else that controls the pressure regulator?
You say you have fuel and spark.
How strong is your spark? Is it nice and blue, or is it yellow?
I would try starting the motor in the dark and look for any arcing from the ignition system. Look at the spark plug wires, especially at the boots, both at the cap and at the plugs. Also, look closely around the coil. There shouldn't be any stray light coming from any part of the ignition system. Wires can go bad in 2 years, and problems in a coil can go hidden.
This might not help, but it doesn't hurt to check. Plus, it doesn't cost anything to check an engine in the dark.
If you determine you have weak spark (yellow instead of blue) and your TFI is fine, and you have no arcing in the wires, my guess would be the coil.
Keep in mind a jump in timing can also cause a no start condition, but I wouldn't touch the distributor until I checked for arcing.
That's my 2 cents. It might not help, but it's cheap.
Hope everything works out.
