Just bad luck...

I was heading to get my bed liner sprayed this morning (only had truck a little over a week) and got rear ended by a drunk driver. I was sitting at a red light and he hit me from behind at about 30mph. Only damage to my truck is bumper, hitch, and a small crease in tailgate. No other damage. Estimate was $3200. His car was totaled. Everything from front end of his car to dash has destroyed. I think it was a Camry.

Officers arrested him and took him away. I wish I would have videoed the sobriety test. Failed it miserably. Hammered at 7AM.
I'll post pics of my truck later when I get home. Just sick right now.

Be careful!

Ryan

Sorry to hear that, out of all my trucks, i still have yet to put a dent in them myself. Its always someone else. I try to always stop about a car length back from the cars in front of me at stop lights for a couple reasons. If i see some one coming up too quick i can ease forward and give them time to brake. Also, so i have room to get out of the line if the situation calls for it. Not saying you could of avoided it as its totally his fault, and you shouldnt have to worry about drunk drivers. Hope you get it all squared away.

Yeah no doubt. He must have dosed off. He never hit the brakes. I had cars in turn lane to my left, cars stopped at light to my right, and two cars in front of me. Just no where for me to go.

Material things can be replaced. Glad you're okay. Speaking from experience, don't sign anything until you're certain you don't have additional damage...including back pain as it may not show up until several weeks later.

Make sure to have the frame checked to make sure everything is still square.

That guy would have a few extra injuries to his face. I don't tolerate drunk drivers.

This is one reason I alway keep the ball mount in my hitch. It does a number on anyone who gets to close in the parking lot or forgets to stop in time. I got hit from behind while at a dead stop. The F150 that hit me looked like it was wrapped around a pole from hitting the the ball mount.

Glad to hear your ok.

Hope they are going to replace the entire hitch and check the trucks frame. Can't guarantee the welds are all good on that hitch anymore.

Glad everyone is ok and that the idiot got hauled off to jail.

Glad your ok.This brings back memories from when I bought my 07 brand new and just a month old I got rear ended at a stop light. The hitch did all the damage to the car and my truck was fine. The kick in the pants for me is my Carfaxes show I was in a accident and rear ended but the truck had no damage!I've been looking at 17's and the dealers are beating me up on trade cause their saying the truck has been wrecked .

Yes dealer I bought it from has a collision center and they told me everything will be new (Hitch, Tailgate, and bumper). Also going to check frame once they start the actual work. I get the police report tomorrow so I can start dealing with his insurance. Officers said he had proof of insurance. We will see.

Thanks

Sucks. I have no tolerance or sympathy for DUI. There should be a lengthy mandatory jail time for even the first offense. Sorry this happened to you but very glad no one was hurt.

I would take the diminished value of your truck into consideration when settling on the accident with his insurance company, and keep those pictures so you can show a future perspective buyer exactly how minor the damage is.
It's concerning that the guy was that drunk first thing in the morning. I've arrested over a thousand DUI's, and seldom do you find one early in the morning during daylight hours like that.
Thank God you're okay. The Super Duty is probably one of the safest passenger vehicles on the road today.

Thanks, yeah definitely going to take diminished value into consideration. Yes it was at 7AM and the officer told me he was supposedly heading to work. I just hope his insurance is good.
