good afternoon all, After reading different posting about the 3.5 v6 twin turbo Ecoboost 4x4 , I have been looking to purchase one and was wondering if there is much of a difference between the 2012 -2014 or are they all the same, I have one I am looking at 2013 F150 Lariat and was wondering if there is anything else i need to check on or look at before making a final decision to purchase.. I know this motor prefers a synthetic blend yet others i speak with recommend full synthetic and premium gas. I have been a FORD guy for 30 years and never complained.. I hope I am making a good decision on this motor instead of the 5.0 v8..
Yeah the generation 1 EcoBoost engines have many TSBs issued on them among all model years, but the 2013+ models are less problematic. They have the new vacuum pump, different ECU programming, different turbos, etc. Ford attempted to Band-Aid the problems until they could get the generation 2 engines out for 2016.
As mentioned, frequent spark plug changes (every 30K or so) and oil changes (every 5K religiously) will help as well as using only Top Tier gasoline. They take more maintenance but you can have many miles of good service with the EcoBoost if you take care of it.
Thanks for the advice Tim, Appreciate your feed back. The truck i went to look at last night was a little disappointing, the was oil leaking from the filter which could be from a sloppy tech not caring and i noticed there was oil residue around a front motor mount which drew concerns of a possible gasket leak , and the skid plate under the truck was gone.. The sale guy was blown away when i was pointing out some of the flaws, i guess he thought i was going to be an easy sell.. Keep you posted as i continue my search..
NO I sure wont, in fact the 2 i recently looked at one ,had an issue i found with an oil leak & they told me they would have it checked & the other they claim the title is missing, GO FIGURE..this was a a very large known car dealership & they did not like the fact i was checking the vehicle inside & out as thorough as i was , even under the motor...My search continues..

These trucks arent cheap. and if the dealer doesnt like it, too bad. why trust them? I sure wouldnt.
The Eco's i know personally which is about a dozen have been just as reliable as any other engine in this series of F-150.
I'm not a fan of the engine personally but I don't think it's all that unreliable, I do know it doesn't always get the MPG it's supposed to. Actually our '13 at work gets worse MPG then my 6.2 currently!
