looking for examples of grab handles mounted on the a-pillar. Wife with bad knees needs a little assistance gettin into trucks... I see a thousand and one on the www. But, would like to see some installed in the 53-56 trucks... only need on the passenger side... I'm a bit more nimble than her. Planning on step plates on the running boards but that extra hand hold really helps her...
John I truly think that this is another how to that you can start. I will follow as that is a very good idea and I would think that a lot of us folks would or could use them . We as the driver have the steering wheel but not the passenger.
Is it a simple as going to the wrecker and finding a vehicle to donate ? They must be bolted on ?
Can you embed some rivnuts or anchor threads in the A pillar?
Obviously my 50 is no trailer queen, so no laughing at least not out loud but this is what I have for my wife to hold on to. One on the dash and one above the door for bumpy roads.
that was my plan exacterly. got them in aluminum and steel and a big old insertation tool... now just to find the right grab bar with the right angle of dangle.
bad weather and long path tornados predicted tomorrow... so Thursday trip might be to the salvage yard

John,
I had never considered it before, but when I read your posting I had an epiphany.
Now I know why the current fad is for everything (trucks, hot rods, etc) to be lowered (slammed) to the ground. Its not because anyone thinks it looks cool. Its because we are all older and can't get up into these trucks anymore. We need to drop them down so we can just fall into them.....(although, crawling back out of them while retaining any semblance of dignity may be a problem)
A buddy put them on his 56 but as I recall his are over the door rather than on the A-pillar. Seems like the A-pillar location would be better for entering the truck where the overhead location would be better for exiting.
Bobby, my next door neighbor and I work for the same company and do outage maintenance work in power plants... one job was a ways off and we rode back and forth in his Miata... 18 wheeler tires are taller than a Miata... It was pre hip replacement time for me and the ride was brutal but it saved a bunch of gas money... I had no shame pulling my right knee up to my chin and turning that leg out then the same with the bad left side, swinging around sideways in the seat and pushing/pulling on anything I could to wrench myself out of that tin can. A couple of times I'd slide out on my bad knee and push up vertical with the good leg... but hey, it was double time and you'll do a lot for doubletime.
I hear ya. I recently helped my buddy move a car. He wanted me to drive his 55 T-bird across town. How could I refuse?
The car is awesome and a blast to drive but to get out of it you kind of have to open the door and roll out onto your face....LOL
Next time, my plan will be to make my grand entrance, then park around behind the building so no one can witness the exiting dance
