Have a 1992 f150 with 4.9, automatic that misses real bad at idle. I can pull plug wires from 3 and 5 cylinder with no change. Came to me like this. I put new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor on it but didn't help. It seems to level out at high throttle, but idle, it shakes itself to pieces. No trouble codes stored, no engine light on. Does not knock, no smoke, and no backfire at all. Have tried different wires and different plugs, no change. Help!
That was gonna be my next step. Possibly stuck valve? I don't think it is rings because it don't smoke at all and uses no oil. Motor is very quiet with no knocks or rattles at all. It has 140000 miles on it and my son's gfs dad bought it new. I have also thought bad injectors? Listening to it run, it sounds just like a fouled plug, but I swapped them around with no change. Also thought plug wires touching but moved them all around while running, no change. What should be range of compression on all cylinders
dry compression will show lower numbers than wet. something in the range of 125 would be good. you will get lower more accurate numbers with a dry test.
