Check the neutral safety switch. And many times a truck has had a automatic, and has been switched to a manual. So there is no neutral safety, so that breaks the circuit and it won't start. You will be looking for the red/blue stripe wires.
Well I need one more thing...a source to tap that is hot when the key is both in run and start but does not have power when the key is off or in acc. Any ideas?
What happened to the original harness and the original components on this truck? It already had all this. It had a ECM relay which was powered from a white/lightblue coming from the ignition switch. This should all be out under the hood. Look on page 60 in this link.
I have the original harness, but its a rat's nest of bare and faded wires and broken connectors. Per page 60, a white and light blue wire should be hot at both positions of the key...page 29 has it starting out as different colors...just having a hard time finding that one wire (or group of) as the w/lb wires I've tested so far are hot in run only which means either I haven't found the right one or a connection is missing somewhere to the ones I have found. Nevertheless, that looks to be what I need.
There you go, keep staring at those diagrams. It's tough at first but gets easier and easier. You will be a expert pretty soon. You need to be to keep this old truck running. I would have thought you would have access to a Ford Motorsports wiring diagram for the harness you bought? Instructions of some sort? It bet it's made for Mustangs isn't it?
