I have a 1994 Motorhome with E350 5.7L I'm having an issue with the air injection system. The hoses that connect the Thermactor divert-er valve to the exhaust manifold burst and it became a huge exhaust leak. The motorhome still runs but it is loud and probably getting bad MPG. I tried replacing the hoses with hose that is rated for 500 degrees and brass T fitting thinking that i just needed to fix the hoses. But the turbo hose burst as well after an hour driving. I have blown through 3 hose repairs in one day. The hoses literally caught fire and melted. Now i have to figure out why the hoses keep bursting. I did have to take the check valve that was inline off since it seemed fried with loose particles inside. Could it be a faulty Thermactor valve that is causing the exhaust to back up into the hoses and cause them to burst? What are my options? Im in California so it may need to pass smog if I decide to sell it. Can the Thermactor just be plugged as well as the hoses that lead to the exhaust manifold without affecting anything? Pictures to follow.
That crossover tube is subjected to very high exhaust gas temps so it has to be all metal and the check valves must be in place to prevent exhaust gases from backing up into the rubber hose sections. So it sounds to me like you need some new tubes, you cannot use rubber hose to reconnect the check valves it won't last.. as you are seeing first hand.
I didn't think it was a turbo. The parts diagram from Ford shows the tube from the exhaust manifold with a check valve attached and then rubber hose after that running to the thermactor diverter valve. I have ordered a new check valve and will use silicone high heat hose to connect to the diverter.
