Custom tunes

So has anyone found any real numbers or charts showing the difference between canned and custom tunes ? And dos it make much difference beings that the obs is non waste gated turbo and smaller injectors? I'm running the ts 6 position chip now with ts tune. And do any of these guys that make custom tunes change how my e4od shift ? My truck always gos into 3rd too soon and never likes to unlock the torque converter.

Someone somewhere has probably logged data or run a dyno testing the two, but the custom tunes are all going to be different between each individual tuner. On a stock truck, you're not going to be able to tell a world of difference. It's when you start getting into the heavy mods where the tuning really needs to be tailor made to your combo. The most power you will get out of a stock injector is about a 50-60hp increase. The tuners can adjust shift points. It's a tricky game getting it where you want.

Okay because yeah there was that TW guy that for $150 I get it re write or the php place for $50 I'd get one tune burned. But yeah the only mods I have on my truck is a down pipe, intake and spx billet wheel. And iv tried to find someone who can make my truck shift like a normal tranny but never had any luck. Drives my crazy when towing I have to use manual gears

It seems like everyone does it a little different. Give gearhead and DP tuner a call as well

Get a hydra and try a lot of them. I have PHP, Gearhead, Powerstruck, Tony W, and two more that I can't think of their names.

Yeah I checked out the php place and that looked good but they couldn't re burn my TS chip I had to buy one of there's. I'm mainly seeing if it's really worth it for a truck like mine. I'd like to get my egts down while running a tune I keep mind on stage 1 (30hp) when towing and daily driving and my egts will get up to 1300 and After a while and I live in the mountains in California so either way I have to make a 2000ft climb when ever I take the horses out of town.

The guys that custom tune the 7.3's really do a lot of things different and better than what you get with the off-the-shelf stuff. They change things like throttle feel, throttle response, ICP, how crisp it gets-up and goes, shifting, stuff like that.
I wouldn't go with a custom tune expecting a power increase on a stock-ish truck over an off-the-shelf product, though. The real difference is in how it drives.
Add performance upgrades and you need to work with custom tunes for sure.

Yeah for sure cus my stock injectors can only do so much. So along with the other pros u stated. What about egts ? I'd like a tune the that I can have turned up a little more but keep egts to a safe level. I had plans on building a sweet motor with adrenaline hpop and stage 2 injectors but that's like 3k right there in mods. So in a few years I'm just going to do new motor with arbs and a fully pumped stock turbo (30+ psi) then do a intercooler and leave the tune on a hotter setting.

you wont get a lot from stock sticks no matter what tune you buy

for EGTs, are you sure your up pipes and intake have no leaks?

Are you running at high RPMs up those hills? low RPMs means higher EGTs

What is fuel pressure? too low and injectors starve and your EGTs can climb up faster because your not spooling the turbo

I'm pulling them at 1800 - 2400 depending on which hill I'm climbing with a steady 10 pounds of boost then some spots 15-17 psi. And iv checked fuel pressure on a scanner and i believe it was in spec and I tried to hook up my Mac fuel pressure gauge but I think I need a adapter cus I had it on there but kept leaking fuel. But I think it got up to spec. I can't remember what numbers I got. And I haven't seen any signed of exhaust leaks or intake leaks

PCM does not read fuel pressure so your scanner cant read it.

check pressure at WOT in 3rd and it should not be lower than 45 PSI

get it up to 3000 RPM so it can breathe

Intake needs to be tested with 20 PSI of air and using soapy water to find the leaks.

ehaust can be done with a leaf blower and soapy water

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the pcm dos some sort of calculation for fuel pressure because iv done it on both of my obs 7.3s with a snap on scanner and was able to get fuel pressure I believe it was it the 600 psi range. And I can check my intake for leaks but my exhaust is tight. When I rebuilt the turbo I cleaned everything and applied copper silicone then I just have a 3 inch down pipe to 4 inch straight pipe that's all welded and don't see any soot leaking out

Hope you mean 60 psi range. Should have used band clamps instead of welding it all together, you might need to take it off some day.
