I just got back from a week of going to the NASCAR race in Fontana, CA and the eastern Sierra and Nevada mountains.
I have to say my truck, pulled my 30' 14500# 5th wheel trailer like butter. First of all mileage was around 9.5mpg. The truck Is so much better pulling then my sold 2004 F250 6.0 2x4 LB. I live a Sacramento and we headed south down I5. Once we hit the grapevine on I5 it pulled my trailer at 65mph up to the pass and I still had peddle. Also I went home the long way from SoCal up the SR395 to visit some friends at June Lake, CA (Mamoth Lakes Area). No issues there either 6% grades. Also downhills are so much better. The engine brakes and towhaul features are the ticket.
We stayed the night in Lancaster, CA the first night and go to Fontana on the SR138 to I15 down to Fontana. There is a section of the sr138 for about 5miles and it's mostly down hill. I had the hit the brakes briefly and the engine brake and towhaul kicked in. The torqe converter locked the tranny in 4th gear and the engine brake did the rest. I had almost no braking from me. With the old truck by time we got into Fontana I had brake smoke coming from the front wheels and the were very mushy.
Bottom line the truck is worth every dollar just for the peace,of mind when pulling a mid sized 5th wheel.
Thanks for the report. I have some time before mine is loaded down and headed to the mountains. I have high hopes for the engine brake. My 01 V10 needed to use the brakes a lot.

Truck is Awesome!
It would be nice to know the engine are gearing for the pulling beast??
Interesting. So many people act like the 3.31 axle is a fail for pulling. I figured it would be fine.
These trucks are awesome. The exhaust brake added in 2015 was such a welcome addition for those towing heavy. Not to mention the brakes are significantly better than your old truck, anyway.
Great report BigStu. Glad to read the truck is serving you so well. When ours comes in we will be spending a lot of time in those same mountains. The Owen's Valley region is very beautiful. I love the view of the Sierras covered in snow from the east side this time of year.
