Limp mode

My truck gave me low fuel pressure and reduced pressure limp mode at 21,000 miles. The fuel and air filters were changed at 16,000. The dealer said all they found was the fuel filters (at 21,000) were what needed to be changed. Anyone have similar problems?? Any other solutions?? Also, why does my truck hum??

But more seriously, do you drive in a really, really dusty environment? Why did they change the air filter at 16,000? I'm not buying what that dealer says.....

Are you using Ford fuel additives? If so, please read the second article in this website:

my truck hums also. If I'm parked and blip the throttle it goes away for a bit. It's annoying but supposedly a solenoid somewhere, either egr or transmission. The sound resonance makes it impossible to tell. Tech thinks it's egr.

I don't drive in a dusty environment. The dealer I was going to said they changed the fuel filters at 16,000. When I broke down at 21,000, I had it towed to a different, but closer dealer. They stated based on the codes, the filters needed to be changed and looked like they hadn't been changed before. I'm hoping that's all it was. The hum is just a slight hum that I never noticed before maybe this winter or around the time of the break down. Not getting any other lights or codes though.

Dealers

I have seen dealer/shop charge for things and not do the service. Did they show your the bottom fuel filter. When I changed mine trucks fuel filter they have always looked good. Are you using good fuel. How often do you drain?

No they didn't show me and I forgot to ask. The second time at they said they were dirty so either they were never changed or I got bad fuel I guess. I was going to the same station. I also put standadyne additive in. I drain often and it's always clean.

I have a slight vibration at idle that as soon as I tap the go pedal it goes away. Had that since new. For some reason my 2011 it wasn't as bad/noticeable.

2015f350-6.7- In a few thousand miles, I'd pull the fuel filter myself and take a look at it. If it's dirty, change fuel stations (and the filter). I changed mine at 15k miles and it was very clean.

Also, FWIW, in the cold and with #1 Diesel, they do sound different (louder and more of the diesel clatter) than when it's warmer and you are using #2 fuel. At least that has been my experience.

Thanks! Yea I'm going to pull both filters before the next oil change and change them myself. I guess I'll keep after it more often. I'll keep an eye on the hum but even today with temps in the 60s I noticed it.

Problem solved!!!

The whine was air getting into the system. Fuel pump is shot!! Being changed by the dealer. Free of charge. Pass this along to anyone else having similar problems.

Where was the air entering the system?

Was the fuel tank pulled to inspect for any foreign debris floating around in the tank, like a cardboard disk from a fuel additive cap, as mentioned in the link to the article I posted in post #4 of this thread?

If not, air can easily be sucked in, caused by a cracked primary fuel filter cap from a previous primary filter change where the cap was overtightened.

I don't believe the tank was pulled. They checked all filter housings and found no cracks or problems. They changed the pump (under warranty) and the truck is running normal, no whine. The additive I use has a foil cap that I peel off before using, so no cardboard disk. I guess the next step would be to pull the tank if it happens again, but when I changed the filters yesterday, a rush of air came out of the water separator so it was apparently getting in the system through the pump.
