I'm having emission problems
there could be numerous root cuases .
possibilities are
1. your buring oil, using the wrong oil, your oil is very dirty
2. you have piston blow by....
3. your injectors are dirty, clogged
4. your valve drive train has a problem.....work tips, bent rocker arms, worn saddles
5. your cam could have worn lobe(s)
6. your air filter is clogged
7. the cat converter is clogged
so my first suggestion to try to pass eemissions testing....run some deisel system cleaner through your fuel system. put a bottle or two in a half tank.
after your run the deisel cleaner . get your fuel tank as low as possible...then add 10 gallons of store bought kerosene. not the red stuff the trucks deliver, the clear stuff they sell in home improvement stores for heating lamps. add some fuel lube to it such as opti lube. if you cant pass emmission running kerosene, you have a mechanical problem that has to be dealt with.
the deisel cleaner will also clean your injectors. if you want a suggestion, try the lucas DPF cleaner. a lot of folks try the DPF cleaner and panic when it start to regen more and smoke worse...but thats temporary as the cleaner is clearing out your combuustion system.
my truck had problems passing emmssions, regened alot, smoked all the time. In my case, I replaced all the rocker arms, rods, and saddles (myself). trck passes emmissions no problem,. MPG went from 8 or 9 MPG to 14 to 17 MPG.
the most expense senerio would be worn rings annd / or cam problems. for the work rings, and do this only during warmer months and never during colder months, run motorcycle 20W50 . the thicker oil will reduce oil burning. get the thicker oil out before it gets cold. do not use gasoline engine 20W50....it does not have enough zinc and posphorus in it.
try the easiest stuff first.
a lot of folks will say do a DPF delete...but those folks are not in states like you and I in which they check your emmissions.
you can also see how far above the weight class you are in your state for emmissions. in my state, I am 80lbs above the emmissions weight class. so if it comes to the day in which I can not pass emmissions, I'll reweight my truck with out the spare tire and drive around with out a spare. if you know what I mean.
You can throw lots of parts and money at this. Look in your manual the information is in there.
