I have a 2003 F350 7.3 and just put power windows(DID NOT COME WITH THEM) in and want to use a fuse in fuse box so the power is on only when key is on.
I'm using parts from a donor truck and made my on wiring harness(what a nightmare), but all is installed just need to add power.
Any sugestions???
I have the fuse box out but don't know what on back connects to whats on front.....
I have a couple of spare wires through the firewall Ford left, in which one is key on power. Pull back through and use it. Not sure which fuse it goes to.
When powering a load like a Window Motor, due to the "potential" amperage draw as they age and slow down, you will want to use a Relay in ADDITION to those you have incorporated into your Harness. This relay will be switched by any key on circuit to switch the Low Voltage Coil.
The Load Circuit should be run NEW from either the B(+) Post on the Alternator OR suitable Power Distribution Bar or Splice found in the Cab and identified in a Wiring Diagram (I do not suggest using Battery Lug for Power); The circuit being 10AMP minimum and 20 AMP maximum. A 20 AMP Circuit Breaker is the preferred choice for the Feed Wiring. This way, a re-set can occur if say all four windows re being powered and the circuit trips for whatever reason. i.e. All at their travel limits with switches held in the on position.
Hopefully, you addressed this in the Wiring Harness for the Feed Circuit to each switch. If not, it's easily added.
One additional question would be will you control all windows from the Drivers Door Panel? Or, just at each Motor?
Here is a picture I found which is typical of the Ford single circuit in our Circa.
If you do not have a wiring diagram for your particular vehicle, please post back and I will see if I may have one.
I am hoping the guy on here that has all the electrical schematics would provide one for the red wire bundle. Knowing the fuses for those wires would be an good for all to know.
Those are "pass through wires" put there from new so that there was an easy way to add things electrical. The other end is to the right of the steering column iirc. They should all be dead unless a PO has used them.
