NO! It has never gotten MORE THAN 14.5. More like 11-13 on average.
This is a 93 F-150, 4.9L, E4OD, 3.08, Extended Cab, Short box, running B.F. Goodrich Commercial TA Radials. 235-75R/15 XL @ 41lbs. Speedo/Odo is correct on measured mile and by Radar.
BTW turned 100,000 this trip.

You might check the mileage over several tankfulls. I routinely track mine and sometimes the MPG for a single fillup comes up abnormally high or low, but they average out to something reasonable over the long run.
Just filled both tanks and calculated 16.7 mpg. Thanks for all the input. I must have goofed filling the tanks before or hit the trip reset by accident.
Try putting a K&N air filter in the stock air box. I put one in my 93F150 4x4 club cab with a 5.0 and 5spd. I gained an extra 50 miles out of a tank full and my highway milage is 21.6 mpg Canadian. From what I have read here I gather that this is really good milage.
I'm not sure what your problem exactly is but I used to get 18-20 mpg on the highway over Stevens pass in Washington state from Seattle to Wenatchee in a 1990 2wd f-150 with 3:08 gears, E4OD and 4.9L.
I know it's possibly......it did that consistently to year I owned and drove it.
I was reading other forums and although the timing on the 96 is not adjustable but I advanced it 2 degrees. It does run better. I have to pull my car trailer tomorrow and we will see how it does.
UNBELIEVABLE difference what 2 degrees of timing makes. Thought someone put a v-8 in it while I wasn't looking. MPG has to improve cause the engine isn't laboring and my foot doesn't have to be in it. In a couple of hundred miles I will fill up and let everyone know the outcome. Thanks alot folks. Joining this forum was definately worth the price.
Update. Gas mileage 16.2 mpg. 31.5 gallons on 512 miles. Very satisfied with performance with the extra 2 degrees of timing. Thanks guys, now all I have to do is fix the exhaust leak and it'll be good as new
I have a 94F150 4x4, I think the gears are 373? I also have the 5speed trans and manual hubs. I added the K&N filter and Flowmaster duals, replaced the O2 sensor. Mileage (about 14.5 average) on the highway but it seems gutless. I have an intermittent stumble at low rpms, changed the fuel filter, resulted in no change. When new it would get around 18 or 19 on the highway. This truck also has California Emissions and I would like to convert it to Oklahoma standards. Open to any and all suggestions. I am also a new member on this site. Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice.
