Well I spent the last day going back through all the last posts to this forum. Didnt find anything about this.
My dad is unable to finish his project. 72 SWB, I-6, drums all around, He-Man steering. So he offered it to me. Free!! I was looking into getting a new Dodge Hemi. Insurance is too much. So I got to thinking 4.6 or 5.4L Mod motor swap. I own a 95 t-bird so im familiar with these motors. I have even thought about putting a 5.4 in my bird.
I guess what im looking for is advise from someone who has done this. Or even another mad minded person as myself to kick some ideas around with. If someone has one of these motors they want to SELL for such a swap. I am looking for preferable a 5.4 mod motor with TRANS. ALL of the extra do-dads, and stuff. Motor and trans need to be of the 97 and newer vintage.
This truck will serve as a tow rig. Reason for the bigger Mod. It will be pulling my 75 Duster (future One Lap of America racer) which im gonna put on hold for a few months to jump into this truck. I also plan on doing some upgrade swaps to the truck too; power tilt/steering, disc brakes, air. Ive already got all the info on these things from this site. Thanks for any advise, encouragment!! Will keep posted on future developments of this old meets new creation.
I've seen a Lightning SC 5.4 with tranny on EBay a few times. I think that would provide enough torque for you and your heavy old truck. Honestly, thats about the only way I would consider doing that swap. The fuel efficiency of an FI motor is only slightly better than the carbureted motors and the hassles of converting to a computer controlled setup far outweigh the poor mileage of an older motor.
custom motor mounts, drive shafts, matching transmission, computer and wiring harness...Are you sure you're up for this?
