I took delivery of my '17 F250 6.7 with the 3.55 locking Sterling rear-end last week. Today on my drive to work I noticed a faint high pitched whining between 50 and 54 mph. I'm fairly certain it is gear whine based on past experience. I have around 550 miles on the truck so far and haven't towed anything yet. Has anyone else experienced gear whine in your new truck?
Have you checked to see if your front hubs are locked in? Some trucks were delivered with the hubs engaged. I'm not sure how much gear whine these new trucks make with the hubs locked at higher speeds, but some of my past older trucks definitely made a noticeable whine.

I just double checked and both hubs are set to auto.
just got my 350 6.2, hear a high pitch whine, almost sounds like a turbo. starts around 25 mph.
Have you been able to identify the sound on your truck?
I have not. My whine is in a super narrow speed range, 53 to 54mph, and seems to only happen in 6th gear and while under a load. It may be rpm dependent instead of speed dependent, but in lower gears the engine noise make it hard for me to hear. I had the dealer look at it and they said they could hear it and it is just normal turbo whine. I'm pretty sure it isn't turbo whine based on my past experience of owning a number of turbo charged trucks and high performance cars. At this point the dealer doesn't want to mess with it and I have opted to leave it alone and see if the noise gets any louder or spreads to a wider speed range.
Can't be a turbo sound, as I have no turbo. There are some other posts that suggest door seals or air filter canister fit, one was caused by a break caliper installed wrong. Slipped the tranny into neutral at about 35, no change to the sound. revved the engine while in park, did not produce the sound. Does not change with load or breaking. Turned the HVAC and stereo on/off, no change. Going to the dealer next week for bed liner, I'll post what they say.

This must be a custom rear end??? Mine came with the Dana rear end.
