New TH

Was pulling my newly purchased TH home today and heard a boom. Had heard it before (on my 7.3) and figured I had blown a turbo boot. After pulling over and looking under the hood I saw the pipe from the metal piece in center of engine had blown off. Got an Uber to local Ford dealer and got the new part. He sad it was real common and there was a redesigned piece for it. So, $299 dollars later and Uber ride to my truck, I was back on the road.

I just installed the AFE replacement to avoid this scenario. Nice that you were in an area to use uber. It's a nice service.

Unfortunately very common Steve. Here's my story. Many carry a spare now or upgrade like Joel did....

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...f-buffalo.html

The replacement you got from your dealer is not redesigned though. I'm guessing he meant there are aftermarket options available. AFE and H&S both make them. Either that or he was referring to the 2017's which have a redesigned pipe.

What kind of TH did you get???

That's my favorite floorpan by them Steve. If I was in the market today, that's exactly the RV I'd buy.

We looked for quite a while. I liked the Floorplan, weights and garage room. I'm a bit white knuckled pulling it but hopefully I'll get used to it.

It's big but you def get used to it. Mine is almost 3' longer and I drive when towing it the same as if it's just the truck at this point. Congrats and post some pics when you get a chance!

You are the perfect person for me to take advantage of your experience. My main worry is a rear tire blowout while towing. Do you use any special tires? I am using Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs now. Rated at 3748 lbs each. Tried to find a higher weight rated tire but haven't so far.

My 2012 was 20" GY AT Adventure rated to 3750#. On my 17 I'm running 20" Nokian Rotiiva AT Plus that are rated to the same. No worries with either as my pin is only 2600-2800# depending on how I'm loaded in the garage. On my 2012 that gave me a rear axle weight of 62-6400# on the scale. So, 6-800# under my rear 7k GAWR and well under my 7500# rear tire ratings. You'll likely be around the same. Your RV lists dry pin as 2800#. Mine did too but I think GD are a touch heavier on the pin than XLR. I'm still betting your around 3k pin loaded and ready to travel so you'll be under your tire ratings by a fair margin as well.

Yep, I'm a member of the "CAC Explosion Group" too. In fact, because of Rodney, I was prepared and took 15 minutes to change. My story is linked in with his. I upgraded to the H&S pipe and found the AFE afterwards. Either will do fine.
Congrats on the new rig!!

Thanks. I wasn't aware this was a problem with the 6.7 until yesterday. It was inconvenient, but, at least, an easy repair.

I was being stubborn about this but my truck will have the AFE pipe before we head for Maine in July. Too many failing.

On the AFE product, the aluminum flange used for the transition from rubber boot to the intake manifold didn't fit tight enough on my truck. The oil vapor leaked out and made a little mess under the hood since the O ring didn't seat well.

I had to wrap the intake port with a layer of masking tape which was just enough thickness to snug things up properly. No more oil vapor leaking, snug fitment, still free enough to allow for the engine movement.
