I had my 88 351 long-block rebuilt. It really depends on if you do any work or a shop does all the work. For example, are you going to pull the engine? A long-block rebuild is around $1000. It can be more if you want "perfomance parts". See summit racing for pistons, cams, etc. While surfing the web, I found this company, http://www.ford-auto-and-parts.com/r...988-parts.html
They have a 7 year/70,000 mile warranty on the rebuilt engine. I would like to see any machine shop even come close. My engine had 6 months/6,000 miles. I would sure liked to have had a 7 year warranty. If the shop removes/replaces the motor, maybe $800-$1000 for that.
I would imagine that some of the info on the engines is boiler plate. I would not think they would sell you something that didn't work for FI. I would also think that you still have to take parts off your old engine and put on the new. Alternator, starter, maybe fuel injectors, intake manifold, etc.
to swap over to a 351 from a 302 you would need a new oilpan, distributor, lower intake manifold (reuse upper 302 plenum) mounting brackets from a 351 for your alt,ac, ps . You will also need the correct dampener and flywheel 28oz and get your exhaust moved up a little to bolt to the manifolds. you would also need an ecu from a rig that had a 351 and same tranny you are using now.
here is a link that helps explain this stuff, http://www.fast351.com/tech/351w.htm
