3 on the tree to the floor

I moved the colum shift to the floor by using a daytona linkage, it is really sloppy and locks up on me. I was just wondering if there are better ones out there. or if there is something I could do.

Thanks

I used the Hurst universal kit on my 67 F100. I'll have to take a look underneath and get back to you, but I somehow recall that there were some adjustments needed at the rods.

Boy Road Dog...that brings back some memories. In the late sixties first thing we would do when we got a column shift truck/car was install a Hurst "Mystery Shifter". You could reverse the "H" shift pattern depending on how you installed the shift rods.

Okay, after taking a look, it all comes back. With the linkage rods removed, I made sure that the tranny was in neutral by using a wrench to shift each "shift stud" (the threaded thingy that the linkage would bolt to). After getting the new shifter bolted in place, I lined up both levers at the shifter. There was a hole at the bottom of each lever to place a dowel through to help line them up. This will ensure that you can do the crossover from R & 1 to 2 & 3. Then I connected the lever and rod at the tranny and threaded the other end of the rod to the shifter levers making sure that the dowel was still lined up.
I bought the Hurst conversion from Summit Racing (catalog) about 10 years ago. I tried to keep the 3 on the tree, but it got too sloppy and it was too much trouble and $ trying to get it tightened up. The only issue I have with the Hurst Shifter is the long reach for the stick.

I have the same problem, i have a hurst shifter and my reverse is top left, 3rd is bottom left, 2nd is top right and 1st is bottom right. How do i fix that on my 1972 f100 shortbed?

Thumbs down 3 on the tree to the floor

I haven't had any good luck with a lot of those cheap Hurst shifters. If you've got to have it on the floor, the best I have seen and used would definitely be Lokar. They are really solid and heavy duty. Take a look.

Hey boogity, are you sure of your shift pattern? On the 3speed toploader tranny the front lever on the tranny controls the 2-3 gears and the back lever controls the 1-reverse. If the shifter is hooked up right then reverse is top left, 1st is bottom left, 2 is top right and 3 is bottom right. To get into 1 or reverse you should have to push the shifter to the left to overcome the spring in the gate of the shifter to make the shift.
