I have a 2004 F250 5.4L with 175k miles. On my way into work this morning I noticed it having a slight problem, would randomly have this bumping/loss of power when accelerating, 4-5 bumps and stop. On my way home it only got worse, was mainly noticeable going up hills but by the time I got home it was doing it while idling. Noticed the sound when I got out of my truck, checked under the hood and it sounded normal, the exhaust def has something going on with it. Sounds like something is rattling around somewhere in it. I noticed over the past couple weeks my exhaust would sometimes make a chattering sound while idling, would only last a few seconds and not very often, don't know if that was the start of something, but was the first time for it happening as well. No check engine light or anything is on. I recorded the sound it was making to hopefully figure out what was wrong before taking it somewhere to have it looked at. Any thoughts or suggestions? Wife keeps telling me to buy a newer truck which would be nice, but it's nice not having a monthly payment. Any help would be appreciated.
Might be a clogged or rotted out catalytic converter
That's what I was thinking after searching around, but it seemed people with those problems, their trucks wouldn't get above a certain rpm or mph, mine didn't have that problem so wasn't sure.
