Yeah, there's no disputing that just about every truck that shows up here that is still wearing its RH-5° rims has done so for decades without incident. But there's also no disputing the fact that there is no way to visually see what shape those inner lips are in, and whether disturbing their inertia will cause a mishap. And no disputing that the service/repair, legal, and insurance industries are effectively removing them from the roads. If the rims are not rusted out and they are installed properly there is very little chance of anything happening....

Unfortunately this is an original Minnesota truck, our DOT uses salt on the roads like it's free.
Not taking any chances. My wife's cousin who is an experienced heavy truck technician (and an avid classic truck enthusiast) has volunteered to help me safely do the deflates / dismounts.
My understanding is the main danger comes from when they give when being pressurized. They started using cages for them to protect against it. More than anything I think you'll just be hard pressed to find someone willing to risk it.
